The Dematic Automated Piece Pick System for Industrial Supplies uses a high-density automated storage sub-system with goods-to-person order assembly to support distribution of industrial supplies. The system includes value-added services processing, label print and apply, manifesting, and parcel sortation. It is ideal for handling fulfillment of precision, high-value small parts.
The system provides an on-demand solution that can effectively handle high-priority orders, last-minute order changes, and large variations in daily volume with minimal order processing time. Furthermore, it offers the operational flexibility to respond to daily variations in order profiles as well as promotional and seasonal peaks.
The system has a standard design and layout with defined capacity and throughput. It is a pre-engineered, compact configuration that supports robust and consistent performance. The modular design with a standardized structure minimizes custom engineering for straightforward technical support and simplified modifications.
Accommodates a wide range of inventory
Compact, high-density layout reduces the cost per order picked
Less staff can assemble more orders, multiple shifts per day.
Significantly accelerates pick rates
Significantly improves order accuracy
The Dematic Automated Piece Pick System for Industrial Supplies has a pre-engineered, standardized design configuration that ensures predictable performance, operational flexibility, and scalability.
Inventory accuracy is measured and adjusted accordingly as an on-going process. This cycle counting method reveals discrepancies that may occur and accommodates for an adjustment. Inventory totes are retrieved and transported to a workstation configured for counting. The Dematic Warehouse Execution System (WES) software confirms whether the entered quantity matches the expected quantity. Once the cycle counting task is complete, the operator confirms the results, and any discrepancies are updated in the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
The Dematic WES software manages a continuous flow of orders for processing downloaded from the host WMS. This processing strategy increases productivity and operational effectiveness by synchronizing workflows in real time. It operates dynamically by managing a revolving queue of orders. Work is pulled to resources so the software can process orders on-demand, continuously, and dynamically instead of in pre-defined static waves.
Every time an order completes, a new order is activated for processing. The software evaluates each order upon receipt and constantly re-calculates urgency level for real-time prioritization, planning, and execution. It adds the next best order to execute based on priority and resource availability.
The software continually evaluates and re-prioritizes the order queue. The assignment of orders is always adjusting to current conditions. New orders can be added at any time. This strategy improves productivity, reduces overall order processing time, and supports faster fulfillment of priority orders. It produces a smooth and consistent operating environment.

Dematic Automated Piece Picking systems are more accurate, require less labor to operate, and use less warehouse space than Non-Automated Piece Picking systems.
Non-Automated Piece Picking | Automated Piece Picking |
Manual process | Automated process |
Manual put-away, slotting, re-slotting, pick | Put-away is automated. No pick faces, slotting, or re-slotting |
Traditional low-density shelving for storage | High-density automated storage |
Operators use pick carts or industrial trucks | Automation provides optimized through-put with less labor |
Operators walking throughout the entire warehouse searching for inventory | Automated storage and retrieval of inventory totes |
Discrete order picking method in shelving aisles | Goods-to-person allow operators to process multiple orders simultaneously |
Manual process prone to errors, inefficient, and slow | Software manages and directs put-away, picking, and packing |
